so i'm reading 'life of pi' and its held my interest. i think its the writing style. i mean its not some techie novel thats out to be like the next blade runner for geeks who can't get out into the sunlight. its just what it is, a book about uumm well, really i don't know what the heck its about?

i've been reading and i'm almost half way through the book but the character development that has gone on is tremendous. the main character 'pi' is the youngest son of a zoo keeper. good boy, very resourceful and intelligent. right now he's actually managed to adopt 3 religions and manages to successfully juggle all 3. i think off the top of my head: muslim, catholicism and buddist(?). the funny part was when all three head honcho's of these churches came (at the same time) to congratulate pi's parents on doing such a good job on pi and ended up turning the conversation into a religious debate. allah this, christ that kinda thing. my god is better! well you're god doesn't do miracles! it was funny to read.

it was amusing. to a certain degree i think pi is quite similar to me. i've always been curious with religion. i've always been wondering how everything fits into the world. i'm also not the type of person that can blindly throw faith. to the people who are strong in faith, i'm in the "can't see, doesn't believe" bucket. supposedly one of the unlucky ones. oh well, to each his own i say!

so pi actually got his first taste of atheism early in his life and so did i. quite similar experiences: a teacher outside of the school system actually expressed his views to me. i was shocked! a catholic grade school teacher ranting and raving about atheism? it was unheard of.

but as the story goes, they were in the process of migrating to canada when everyone except pi dies. no really, its quite traumatic, it even involved a tiger named richard and a zebra. yes folks i'm not joking.
